Experience an unusual adventure on the unique and tireless Hucul (or Carpathian) horses which are directly connected with the area of Eastern Carpathians. The Hucul horses are known for their calm temperament, friendly character and are ideal for moving in forest terrain and animal tracking.
Learn the secrets and curiosities of the lives of Carpathian wolves. You will learn for example how many „words“ wolves need for basic communication among themselves, how it differs from that of humans, in what order they walk in a wolfpack, why they seek beechnuts although they do not eat them, why they howl or why they avoid humans and encounters with humans are very rare.
If we are lucky enough we will see different forest animals and possibly footprints of a wolf, wildcat or a bear. We will show you how the forest ecosystem functions and inform you about its importance for the country and the people living there.
We will lead you to the north-east of Slovakia into the Eastern Carpathians, to the area called The Wolf Mountains. This area is typical mainly for its forest country (predominantly woodland) with a high occurrence of animals and for its easy terrain which is ideal for the hiking and horse tourism.
Our route will start in the village Suchá from house N. 19 (district Stropkov) and will lead in a moderate ascent through the old forest paths, beech forests and wonderful Carpathian meadows. Its total length will be approximately 11 km. We will move at a leisurely pace. We will have several stops on the route with guided commentary and will make one longer break for a meal.
Our lecturer will be Kamil Soóš, a wilderness expert who has been specializing in the observation of wolves in this region for the last 20 years. During the tour, he will lead us alongside the wolves paths and will teach us how to recognize the footprints of wolves and other wild animals in nature.
